There is increasing evidence to suggest that diet plays a crucial role in mental health and illness, such as depression, anxiety and mood. This research group aims to explores the (1) mechanisms of food compounds, nutrients, foods, and whole diets on mental health and illness, and (2) the clinical efficacy and effectiveness of such nutritional interventions. Ongoing research investigates the impact of polyphenols on mood-related outcomes, and the impact of plant-based foods on moderate anxiety and depression, via large randomized controlled trials. Our ongoing research further investigates the role of micronutrients and n-3 fatty acids in pediatric and perinatal depression.
